here to view map Attractions In terms of attractions, visitors will stumble across St Finbarr's Cathedral on Bishop Street, just up from South Gate Bridge. This impressive Protestant Cathedral was designed by the architect William Burges, who beat sixty-seven other contestants in a competition to design it. Inside the cathedral, the pulpit and colourful chancel ceiling are particularly impressive. Cork City Jail on Convent Avenue is another fine attraction within the city. A taped tour is available for visitors, guiding them around the restored and refurnished cells, whilst an audiovisual display is available on the prison's history. The Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, on Emmet Place, houses an excellent collection of paintings by Irish Artists, including works by Jack B Yeats. For those in search of a quick city fix, a selection of guided tours are available. Bus Eireann operate a three-hour open-top tour, which takes in Blarney en route. There are plenty of events to look out for around the city too. The Cork International Jazz Festival and the International Film Festival both take place in October and see crowds throng the area in anticipation of a great weekend. The International Choral and Folk Dance festival runs from late April to early May in the City Hall. For further
